I wanted to mention, Rick, I just checked out your slide deck from

http://code.bocoup.com/popcorn.js/jqcon/#landing-slide

I especially like slides 15 + very helpful in gaining a bit of an understanding of how the framework has evolved, and how to get started extending this. Bravo. :)

--Phillip.Phillip Smithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06008216544225337123noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3746302209178649490.post-40786730572258591402011-07-26T08:14:46.058-07:002011-07-26T08:14:46.058-07:00Great post.

At the time I found the documentation woefully lacking while Butter was geared to video rather than audio and was too inflexible in page layout for what I had in mind.

In the end I rolled my own code. It has nowhere near the features of popcorn, but all I wanted to do was set/clear a CSS class on different elements in sync with the audio.

When a developer chooses to roll their own code because it will be a lot faster than working out how to do something relatively simple with your library, there's a definite need for better docs ;)

I'll continue to keep an eye on popcorn for future projects, and a lot of the problems I faced are already being addressed (e.g. with Popcorn Maker).Xavhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09949162220993711724noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3746302209178649490.post-7308715500158950042011-07-24T14:02:13.964-07:002011-07-24T14:02:13.964-07:00Thanks everyone!

That's where I was advised about updating the .htaccess file (sorry I forgot to include attribution).

Brett, I'm going to reserve my comment on your question for a bit, as I'm new to the community and have a bit more learning to do. But, by the way of transferring what's familiar to me from one project to the next, the folks at web2py have a "welcome app" that they frequently update, and that people often use as a template for creating new apps. Perhaps popcorn would benefit from the same.

I'm looking forward to submitting a plugin for peer review. I don't know if this is the plugin here, but there should be one in the near future.

Cole, So glad you like the post.

You may have noticed, during our chat the other night you advised me to do the following:

1) dig into the source code
2) create your own plugin
3) make it change some stuff in the page

I started my blog post with these bullet points as working headings for this post :)

Thanks for the advice!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16014900019052103197noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3746302209178649490.post-20716298933130884462011-07-24T09:56:53.711-07:002011-07-24T09:56:53.711-07:00This really tremendous! Feel free to join us in the #popcorn channel on irc.mozilla.org - there is almost always someone there that is willing to help answer questions that you might have about the framework. Additionally, this is the place to be to get first hand experience or even to contribute to the project.rickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14401916337192530246noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3746302209178649490.post-49925559483954035352011-07-24T09:49:44.670-07:002011-07-24T09:49:44.670-07:00This is great, John!
